Future edit: The term Upload refers to the process of assembling an S1 or an S2 citizen. Once individual codes are assembled together, your Citizen becomes “uploaded.” In terms of on-chain activity it means that they become interconnected and form a Citizen NFT. All of the individual NFTs that were used to assemble a Citizen are locked into a smart contract on the Ethereum blockchain. The term “Upload” was used by Alex Becker on [find day] and several times after that in his tweets and by the community. In Neo Tokyo lore the term refers to the process of a person leaving their physical form and “uploading” his consciousness into the Neo Tokyo metaverse. First citizens were uploaded on [find date] known as the Upload Day.
Season 1 Citizens can be uploaded using three separate NFTs: an Identity, an Item Cache and a Land Deed. Citizens can choose to add a fourth item: a Vault, which increases the amount of $BYTES emissions that are received upon staking the assembled NFT.
Season 2 Citizens can be uploaded using only three NFTs: an Outer Identity, an Outer Land Deed and an Outer Item Cache. Outer Citizens also yield $BYTES, but the emissions are greatly reduced. For details on Outer Citizen $BYTES yield, refer to this article.
The length of time a citizen has been uploaded, is also one of the parameters taken into account when calculating the $BYTES yield.
Additionally, holders can choose the gender of their Citizen as well as add a custom message for the NFTs description prior to uploading the NFT codes. The rarity score of the NFT is calculated based on the rarity scores of the individual NFTs that were used to assemble it. Gender and custom messages do not matter. The appearance of your NFT, once it is uploaded, will be determined primarily by the Item Cache that was used. The Land Deed code will determine the background.
If the uploaded Citizen NFT is sold, all of the items (individual NFTs used to assemble it) are also sold with it. The process can be reversed at any time, by disassembling the Citizen NFT back into individual pieces.
